📢 Protect Democracy: Fair Maps, Fair Votes, Our Future
🗽 Protect democracy in 2026 with news on redistricting, voting rights, healthcare, and economic power—and actions to defend fair elections.
Why Protecting Democracy Matters
Democracy doesn’t collapse overnight—it is hollowed out piece by piece, not by accident, but by design. Powerful interests manipulate voting maps, weaken oversight, and rewrite rules to protect themselves while silencing the public. These tactics are deliberate, coordinated, and increasingly normalized.
Black and Brown communities are disproportionately targeted by voter suppression, gerrymandering, disinformation, and policies that make it harder to register, vote, and be counted. When these voices are pushed to the margins, democracy itself is weakened for everyone.
That’s why this newsletter exists—to inform, connect, and mobilize. We break down the policies shaping our democracy, expose who benefits from voter suppression, and share clear ways to take action.
Freedom is a daily act—and democracy survives only when the people are informed and defend it.
🗳️ Protect Democracy - News Briefs
🔥 Jeffries to Trump: Fire Noem or We Move to Impeachment
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and senior Democratic lawmakers issued a stark ultimatum to President Trump, demanding that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem be fired or face impeachment proceedings in the House, citing her role in controversial immigration enforcement policies and deadly shootings carried out by DHS agents. With more than half of House Democrats now co-sponsoring articles of impeachment and a formal oversight and impeachment inquiry threatened, the standoff highlights deep partisan divisions over federal enforcement tactics. Axios
Why This Matters: This unprecedented political confrontation underscores rising congressional alarm over what Democrats characterize as lawless and harmful DHS actions, turning immigration enforcement into a potential impeachment flashpoint — even as Trump and Republican leaders stand firmly behind Noem, risking further erosion of democratic accountability and public trust.
🧑⚖️ Citizen’s United Paved the Way for Trump’s Corporate Grift
Sixteen years after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC, which opened the floodgates to unlimited corporate and billionaire spending in U.S. elections, critics say this decision laid the groundwork for disproportionate influence by wealthy interests — including those aligned with Donald Trump — shaping policy and political outcomes. According to Public Citizen co-presidents Lisa Gilbert and Robert Weissman, the decision enabled massive corporate spending that benefited Trump and allowed industries like crypto and Big Tech to wield outsized power, often blocking popular policies on drug pricing, wages, taxes, and environmental protection. Common Dreams
Why This Matters: Citizens United has fundamentally altered American democracy by empowering corporate money to overshadow ordinary voters’ voices, fueling inequality and political corruption that benefits the wealthy and entrenched interests instead of everyday people seeking social and economic progress.

This is our why
Power has always belonged to the people. That’s why protecting democracy is not optional—it’s our shared responsibility. When we defend it, we defend one another, our freedoms, and the future we are shaping for generations yet to come.
For nearly 250 years, democracy has been the lifeblood of this nation—not handed down by kings or bought by billionaires, but built and sustained by everyday people. It lives in our families and neighborhoods, in classrooms and clinics, on job sites and in voting lines. It’s the teacher guiding the next generation, the nurse caring for their community, the worker keeping society moving, and the voter who refuses to be silenced.

You’re invited: Eyes on ICE: Document and Record
Details: 📅 Date: Thursday, February 5, 2026 📍 Location: Zoom. RSVP today and bring your voice to the movement!
On January 24, 2026, federal immigration agents fatally shot 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, igniting nationwide outrage and deepening fear in communities already targeted by aggressive enforcement tactics. Pretti, who cared for veterans and peacefully stood up to oppressive federal action, was killed in broad daylight — the latest in a string of violent encounters that include the earlier killing of Renée Good.
Enough is enough. Exercising our Constitutional rights to document, record, and witness the actions of ICE, CBP, and other federal agents is no longer optional — it’s necessary. Every phone camera pointed at abuses, every legal observer trained, every neighbor supported keeps power in check and protects our communities from terror and unchecked force.
Join an important training via Zoom on Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at 8:00 pm ET for Eyes on Ice: Document and Record, a training call that will equip you with the tools to confidently and safely assert your rights when documenting law enforcement — and take action beyond it. We’ll walk through what you need to know, how to protect yourself and others, and concrete ways to stay engaged in the fight for justice.
