Protect Democracy: The Movement for Freedom — March 10, 2026
March 10, 2026: voting rights, government accountability & grassroots resistance. Freedom over fascism — act now.
🗽 Protect Democracy: Fair Maps, Fair Votes, Our Future
Powerful interests manipulate voting maps, weaken oversight, and rewrite the rules to protect themselves while silencing the public. These tactics are deliberate, coordinated, and increasingly normalized. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and policies designed to make it harder to register, vote, and be counted are not random. They target Black and Brown communities, low-income families, the elderly — everyone historically pushed to the margins — because silencing the most vulnerable is how the powerful stay powerful.
That’s why Protect Democracy exists — to inform, connect, and mobilize. We break down the policies reshaping our democracy, name who benefits from voter suppression and dismantling democracy, and give you clear ways to push back. Freedom is a daily act. And democracy survives only when the people defend it.

📰 What’s Happening: Stories Shaping Our Democracy Right Now
⛽ Trump’s Iran War Is Costing You at the Pump — And He Doesn’t Care (NY Times)
Ten days ago, Trump launched military strikes on Iran with no congressional authorization and no plan to protect American families from the economic fallout. Now we’re all paying for it. Gas prices have skyrocketed to a national average of $3.47, up nearly 50 cents from last week alone.1 Trump’s Iran war is costing Americans $1.5 billion more at the pump this week alone.2 When asked about it, Trump told reporters it’s “a little glitch”3 — and shrugged off the surge with “if they rise, they rise.” Just 29% of Americans approve of the strikes, and two-thirds — including 44% of Republicans — expect gas prices to keep rising.4
Why it matters for democracy: This isn’t just an energy story — it’s a government accountability story. Trump promised cheap gas. He launched an unauthorized war. Now working families across red states and blue states are absorbing the cost while he dismisses their pain. Because oil is a worldwide commodity, the conflict is hitting Americans in red states, blue states, oil-producing states, and the 18 states that don’t drill at all.5 When leaders pay no price for their decisions, democracy weakens. When voters connect the dots, it strengthens.
🗳️ The FBI Is Now Subpoenaing 2020 Election Records — And Trump Is Cheering (Politico)
A federal grand jury subpoenaed records from the Arizona Senate related to the 2020 election in Maricopa County, marking another move by the Trump administration to relitigate an election that he lost.6 The audit, largely funded by groups loyal to Trump and supportive of his false claims that he won Arizona in 2020, reached erroneous and inaccurate conclusions.7 In fact, that same audit confirmed Biden won — and actually found Biden received more votes than the official tally. Trump responded to the subpoena news on Truth Social with one word: “Great!!!”
This follows the FBI’s January raid on election offices in Fulton County, Georgia. The move comes amid fears that the Trump administration will attempt to assert control over this year’s midterms.8 Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes called it plainly: this is “the weaponization of federal law enforcement in service of crackpots and lies.”9
Why it matters for democracy: Free and fair elections are the foundation of everything. When a sitting president uses the FBI to investigate elections he already lost — elections reviewed, audited, and upheld by courts and Republican officials alike — it is not a law enforcement action. It is voter suppression dressed in a federal badge. This is the anti-democracy playbook in real time, aimed directly at the 2026 midterms.
⚖️ Congress Had the Chance to Stop Trump’s Illegal War — And Republicans Said No (NPR)
Democrats filed war powers resolutions to require President Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran without congressional authorization.10 The Republican-controlled House narrowly voted to reject the resolution — one day after the Senate blocked a similar measure. Taken together, the failed votes represent an implicit authorization by Congress for Trump to carry on his military strikes, as a majority of Americans say they oppose the war.11
Senate Democrats are now demanding public hearings with testimony from top Trump administration officials as the White House offers mixed messaging.12 Sen. Elizabeth Warren was direct: “This is not a war supported by this country, and this is not a war that makes us safer.”13
Why it matters for democracy: The Constitution is not ambiguous — Congress declares war. Not one person. Not one president. When the Republican majority rubber-stamps an unauthorized military conflict and blocks every attempt at oversight, they are not governing. They are abdicating. The framers designed this system for exactly this moment — and the GOP Republicans are dismantling it in real time.
🔍 The Broader Pattern for Defending and Protecting Democracy: This Is the Blueprint.
These stories look separate. They are not.
A president who launches an unauthorized war, dismisses its cost on working families, uses the FBI to relitigate lost elections, and faces zero accountability from his own party — this is not dysfunction. This is Project 2025, authoritarianism, and fascism in motion.
The 900-plus-page playbook backed by billionaire donors and the Heritage Foundation was always designed to centralize power in the presidency, dismantle independent oversight, and silence the voices that threaten entrenched power. The Iran war bypasses Congress. The election subpoenas intimidate future voters. The gas price spike hollows out the economic security that civic engagement depends on.
This is not a coincidence. It is the blueprint. And it is already being run.
Fascism thrives when people feel powerless. That is exactly why people power threatens it.
🔥 What Comes Next: The Work Is Ours
For nearly 250 years, American democracy has never been handed down by kings or bought by billionaires. It has been built — and defended — by ordinary people. That lineage belongs to us. The next chapter is ours to write.
Democracy is not a monument. It is a practice. When we organize, vote, and resist together, we assert who we are: a people who believe that power belongs to the many, not the few. That freedom over fascism is not a slogan — it is a standard.
You already took action at the top of this page. Good. Now share this post with someone who needs to read it. Show up to the next action. Stay in the movement.
Freedom over fascism. Progress over fear. Power to the people — every single one of us.
Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
